Ekrem Dur, who was arrested and later released after punching a father on the Marmaray, said, "The friend provoked me a lot. He left no room."
In the continuation of his statement, Dur said, "Believe me, I am not such a person; I apologize to our nation and the children. I would not want any child to experience such a thing. I have children of my own, too."
Regarding the events on Habertürk TV, Ekrem Dur stated the following:
"It reached such a point that we no longer saw the children after that moment. Believe me, I don't even remember how I did it, how I hit him. First of all, let me say that I am very sorry that such a thing happened in the presence of children.

He boarded the Marmaray with his children. Just as he was boarding, an 18-19-year-old girl was standing on the right side. He said, 'Move away from there, why are you standing underfoot? My children will trip over you.' The girl apologized. He kept insulting the girl and speaking in a demeaning way. We and the others didn't say anything. As I was about to get off, I saw the girl crying. I said, 'What was the need to say so much? You broke the girl's heart.'
'What are you interfering for? I'll say whatever I want,' he said, and started yelling at me. Just as I was about to get off, the friend in the blue shirt couldn't take it anymore, and he started yelling."
