Ekrem İmamoğlu calls on authorities for imprisoned Ramazan Gülten: Do not sign off on this cruelty too

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who has been held at the Marmara Prison in Silivri for over 100 days, shared a message and a request regarding Ramazan Gülten, who is also imprisoned.

Stating that Ramazan Gülten is counting the days to become a father and wants to witness the birth of his baby, İmamoğlu said that Gülten's requests regarding this matter have been consistently rejected by the authorized bodies.

Through a post on his social media account, İmamoğlu appealed to the authorities to grant Gülten's request and used the phrase, 'do not sign off on this cruelty too.'

Ramazan Gülten is my companion. During his tenure, he fought against those who encroached upon Istanbul's most valuable locations, removed occupations, and reclaimed public spaces for Istanbul.

He protected Istanbul against the rent-seeking and plunder projects carried out under the name of Kanal Istanbul. He received threats and was attacked, but he never gave up. That is why he is in prison right now. Another act of oppression is now being committed against this honorable friend of mine, who has never let a single bite of illicit food pass his throat.

Ramazan, who is being held in prison without any serious charges against him and is being kept in detention pending trial, had recently married, and his wife, Pınar Çalışkan, is expecting a baby. Their baby will be born soon, and Ramazan has applied to the Ministry multiple times, requesting that he be allowed to witness his child's birth and asking for the necessary permissions to be granted.

The response received is always negative. I am calling out from here to those who deem this oppression worthy of families, spouses, children, and even an unborn baby and its mother; do not incur the curse of these children and these mothers. Grant permission to Ramazan so he can witness his baby's birth. Do not sign off on this cruelty too.
