Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor and CHP presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu, in a statement regarding the month of Ramadan, expressed that he welcomed his 18th Ramadan this year in Silivri. In a message shared by his Presidential Campaign Office, İmamoğlu stated the following:
"Today, my prayers at the iftar table were for our 86 million citizens. I entered my 18th Ramadan since I began my political career in Silivri. Since the Ramadan in 2009, when I became a district head, I have been a guest at the tables of my neighbors and fellow citizens for 17 years. During the 11 years I have served as mayor, I have had the honor of being at the tables of our martyr and veteran families, our neighborhood heads (muhtars), and our citizens with our 'Blessed Iftar Table' on the Night of Power (Laylat al-Qadr).
Sorrow, abundance, joy, scarcity, poverty... Whatever was in that citizen's home, I experienced it. We prayed together, we were heart-to-heart, and we strove to be a remedy for troubles. We felt each other, and we had conversations that shed light on our services.
This evening, I closed my eyes at the iftar table and brought your sweet face before my eyes. With the sadness of losing my Aunt Havva, I prayed for her, just as I did for my grandmothers with cotton-soft cheeks and the women of our house who raised me. May there be mercy for the soul of my beautiful aunt who raised me. May her place be in heaven. I will definitely come to Akçaabat Zavana (Salacık) village, and I will meet you at your graveside."
