İmamoğlu reacted to the decision taken by Istanbul University, stating that this step has left a "black mark" on the history of his school.
In his post, İmamoğlu expressed that reclaiming Beyazıt Square, located in front of the historic gate of the university he graduated from, for Istanbul was a source of pride for him, and he stated the following:
"People come and go, but good deeds remain. It was my privilege to reclaim Beyazıt Square, in front of the historic gate of the university I graduated from, for Istanbul; I am very proud to have accomplished this beautiful work.
But the Istanbul University administration has left a black mark on the history of my school by trying to cancel the diploma I earned with honor.
Those who made this decision will not be happy, because they will have no face to explain this bullying to anyone."

Mezun olduğum üniversitenin tarihi kapısının önündeki Beyazıt Meydanı'nı İstanbul'a tekrar kazandırmak bana nasip olmuştu, bu güzel işi yaptığım için çok gururluyum.
Ama İstanbul Üniversitesi yönetimi, alnımın akıyla aldığım diplomayı… pic.twitter.com/jeoQrgKigG
