As part of a corruption investigation into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), 43 people, including Beyoğlu Mayor İnan Güney, have been detained.
It was reported that searches were conducted at the homes of Beyoğlu Mayor İnan Güney, his advisor Yiğit Oğuz Duman, and certain individuals at Medya A.Ş.
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced that detention warrants were issued for 44 people, including Beyoğlu Mayor İnan Güney.
Republican People's Party (CHP) presidential candidate and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu addressed Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç regarding the judiciary.
Emphasizing that the judiciary has become politicized, İmamoğlu rebelled, saying, "You have a responsibility to the Turkish judiciary. Enough is enough."
İmamoğlu expressed his reaction to Minister Tunç with the following words:
"I am addressing the Minister of Justice:
THE SALT HAS GONE BAD!
Do not tell our nation the fairy tale that 'the judiciary is independent.' The judiciary becoming dependent on politics endangers not only justice but also the future of our nation and our state.
Unfortunately, a judiciary that takes sides with those who pay is wounding consciences and hurting the public's sense of justice.
The operation carried out at dawn this morning against our CHP Beyoğlu Mayor İnan Güney and IMM bureaucrats is not independent of recent events. These practices, which ache the heart of every conscientious citizen, are an open challenge to law and justice. While allegations of an 'IMM conspiracy market' are out in the open, continuing these revenge operations is a complete example of lawlessness.
The judiciary has become politicized. There is no trust left in the judiciary. This loss of trust is collapsing our country's economy, stealing our nation's future, and weakening the state. You have a responsibility to our nation and to the supreme Turkish judiciary.
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!"
