The imprisoned presidential candidate of the Republican People's Party and elected Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu shared a post on his social media account regarding student dormitories.
İmamoğlu wrote the following:
"I am receiving numerous letters and messages from students staying in KYK dormitories. Students are complaining a lot about the conditions of the dorms, the quality of the food, the limited facilities, the poor internet service, the lack of transportation options, security, and the attitudes directed toward them when they voice their complaints.
If those who govern a country are to boast about something, they should boast about the value they place on young people and children, and the quality of education and opportunities they provide. This country has brilliant, talented, and intelligent children; each one is a gem, and these children will make our country strong and a prosperous place to live. Our greatest investment must be in them.
It doesn't take much; it is enough for this country to be rid of palaces, ostentation, and waste; good education is provided with good intentions.
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality has brilliant dormitories, new ones are opening, and we provide economical, high-quality, and safe housing. All students are happy and peaceful, focusing on their studies. We will solve this problem.
We did it in Istanbul, and we will do it in Turkey as well."
