Elfin Tataroğlu shares the figures: Inequality in access to education deepens poverty

The "Poverty and Living Conditions Statistics 2023" data published by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT) has once again highlighted the relationship between education level and poverty.

According to the data evaluated by Elfin Tataroğlu, there is a sharp decrease in the poverty rate as the level of education increases. These findings once again confirm how important access to educational opportunities is in protecting individuals from the risk of poverty.

POVERTY AMONG HIGHER EDUCATION GRADUATES IS LIMITED TO 2.7 PERCENT

According to the data, while 25.4% of those who are illiterate live in poverty, this rate drops to 2.7% among higher education graduates. While the poverty rate among secondary school graduates is 7.2%, it reaches 13.6% for those with less than a high school education and 23.6% for those who have not received any education. These data have once again revealed the connection between education status and poverty.

ANOTHER PROBLEM: CHILD POVERTY

Elfin Tataroğlu shared in her column the data from the same study showing that 30.7% of the general population is at risk of poverty or social exclusion. It was stated that this rate rises to 40.1% in the 0-17 age group.
