It has emerged that Özlem Çerçioğlu, who was elected as the Aydın Metropolitan Municipality Mayor for two terms from the CHP, is expected to switch to the AKP in the coming days.

It is alleged that Çerçioğlu, who was one of the last candidates to be announced in the March 31, 2024 elections, also forced municipal workers and some district heads to resign during the transition process.

While these developments have been met with reactions, especially from the CHP front, criticisms that the citizens' votes have been wasted are also coming one after another.

A criticism on the subject also came from former YARSAV President Ömer Faruk Eminağaoğlu.

Eminağaoğlu reacted to Aydın Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Özlem Çerçioğlu's decision to switch to the AKP.

In a post on his social media account, former YARSAV President Eminağaoğlu stated that a new rule should be added to the Constitution for political ethics, using the expression: "If those elected in local and general elections switch to another political party, their elected office should end!"
