In a video post shared on the social media account of Mayor Çalık, who is currently imprisoned in a jail in Buca, İzmir, the following statements were made regarding their wedding anniversary:

"Today is the 22nd wedding anniversary of my dear wife, my life partner Zehra. Even though we have been separated for 207 days, my heart is with you, with you and our children every moment... Zehra, during this difficult process we have been going through, you have acted as both mother and father, teaching our children both love and resilience. The healing that those few minutes of your gaze give me every time you come to visit is above all sorrows... I am infinitely grateful to you, to our children, and to the love that keeps us together. I am glad you exist, I am glad you are in my life. I love you and our children very much."
