Emphasis on 'New Constitution' at High Advisory Board meeting

Presidential Communications Director Fahrettin Altun announced that the High Advisory Board meeting, chaired by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, addressed issues within the scope of the political institution in Turkey as well as efforts toward a new constitution.

Altun issued a written statement regarding the High Advisory Board meeting held at the Çankaya Palace.

Stating that the meeting included consultations on the February 6 earthquakes and the subsequent process, political and economic issues on Turkey's agenda, and all regional and global challenges facing Turkey, Altun said, "General evaluations regarding issues within the scope of the political institution in Turkey, and specifically efforts toward a new constitution, were discussed at the meeting. The need for a civil, democratic, libertarian, and inclusive constitution for Turkey was emphasized."

Altun noted that the economic program being implemented with determination by Turkey was also evaluated at the meeting, stating the following:

"The meeting highlighted the importance of avoiding populist attitudes that would create a burden on the Turkish economy and the necessity of continuing the diligent work being carried out to achieve the program's goals in the same direction.

During the board meeting, it was emphasized that the 4-year period ahead for Turkey without elections holds opportunities for politics, governance, foreign policy, and other areas, and that this period must be used effectively on the path to achieving the goals of the Century of Turkey.

Board members also shared their evaluations regarding the 'Century of Turkey Education Model,' which will initiate a new era in education."

Altun stated that the meeting also discussed the reconstruction and construction activities carried out in the provinces affected by the disaster of the century, and noted that board members expressed their views and suggestions during the meeting, where many topics concerning Turkey were addressed.

Altun conveyed that President Erdoğan emphasized during the meeting that "the most efficient steps will be taken in foreign policy and other areas to ensure the goals of the Century of Turkey are definitely achieved, and that, barring any extraordinary circumstances, the positive results of the economic program will begin to be seen from the second half of 2024."
