Enginyurt's 'Kürecik' call to Erdoğan: 'Brother Recep, if Israel is going to attack...'

Democrat Party (DP) Deputy Chairman Cemal Enginyurt brought the Kürecik Radar Station to the agenda amid the Israel crisis and called for its closure. 

President and AKP Chairman Erdoğan said at the opening ceremony of the Turkish Grand National Assembly on October 1, "Israel's aggression includes Turkey; the place it will set its sights on is our homeland." Following Israel's first attack on Gaza, Erdoğan had stated at a rally held at Atatürk Airport on October 28, 2023, "Israel is committing war crimes. We may come suddenly one night." DP Deputy Chairman and Istanbul MP Cemal Enginyurt responded by criticizing these contradictory statements by Erdoğan.

'WHY DON'T YOU RETURN THE JEWISH MEDAL YOU RECEIVED'

Enginyurt asked, "Previously, he was saying to Israel, 'We may come suddenly one night.' Now he says Israel could attack us. What has changed in a year that Israel has reached a position where it could attack us?" Addressing Erdoğan, the DP Deputy Chairman said, "If Israel is going to attack us, why don't you close our embassy there? Why don't you close the Kürecik Radar Station? Why don't you return the Jewish medal you received?"

THE SPEECH CAUSED THE STOCK MARKET TO FALL

Emphasizing that the President's remarks also had an impact on the stock market, Enginyurt stated, "The stock market was above 10 thousand until Erdoğan made this speech in Parliament. When he spoke at 15:00, the stock market crashed. Some people sold, and some entered the market from the bottom. Who sold that day should be investigated." The issue of whether signals for the missiles fired by Iran at Israel were also coming from Kürecik had previously been on the agenda during the time the event occurred.

KÜRECİK

The Kürecik Radar Station in Malatya operates under NATO control. It distinguishes whether every object flying in a vast region from Iran to the Eastern Mediterranean is friend or foe. It tracks them second by second and warns land and air elements.

PROVIDES EARLY WARNING

Established in 2012 on Çat Hill near the Akçadağ district of MALATYA, the Kürecik Radar Station provides early warning services against potential ballistic missile attacks to NATO countries. It is argued that the intelligence obtained through early warning and detection radars is transferred to Israel via the USA, and that Iran's recent missile attack was also learned by Israel in advance thanks to Kürecik.

The command and control of Kürecik are carried out from NATO's Ramstein Air Base in Germany. Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler had stated some time ago, "Kürecik aims to protect allied countries within the scope of ballistic missile defense of NATO airspace. This radar has no relationship, connection, or contact with any state other than the security of our country and our alliance."
