AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will attend the extraordinary summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Riyadh regarding the Gaza Strip. It had been stated that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad would also be in Riyadh to attend the summit.
WILL THERE BE A MEETING?
In a statement made to Sputnik, sources close to Erdoğan emphasized that a meeting with his Syrian counterpart Bashar al-Assad is not on President Erdoğan's program for the Organization of Islamic Cooperation summit in Riyadh.
Some sources had acknowledged the possibility of Erdoğan and Assad coming together at the Riyadh summit, while Ankara had not commented on these reports. In September, Erdoğan stated that Assad had maintained an 'observational stance' in the process of normalizing relations between Ankara and Damascus, and that there was no positive attitude on the Syrian side.
The source speaking to Sputnik said, "There is no such meeting on President Erdoğan's program."
