The government, which is frequently in the spotlight due to tax increases on alcoholic beverages, has approved the import of 1.5 million liters of wine and fermented alcoholic beverages from Azerbaijan to Turkey with zero customs duty.
The agreement signed between Turkey and Azerbaijan on this matter was submitted to the TBMM as a legislative proposal.
The proposal was accepted with 273 votes from the ruling party during discussions held in Parliament last week. A "Preferential Trade Agreement" had been signed between the two countries on this subject.
10-YEAR ZERO-TAX AGREEMENT
According to the agreement, which will be valid for 10 years, Turkey will purchase wine, mulberries, quinces, iron and steel products, and packaging materials from Azerbaijan with zero customs duty.
Turkey, in turn, will send copper wire, washing machines, monitors, video recording devices, motor vehicle parts, and aluminum to that country. Azerbaijan will not collect customs duties on these products either.
