Erdoğan congratulates Özel: 'Under your leadership...'

President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and CHP Chairman Özgür Özel met at the AKP Headquarters. The meeting between the two leaders lasted 1 hour and 35 minutes. 

Following the meeting, it was stated that Erdoğan would pay a return visit to the CHP Headquarters in the near future and that an agreement was reached to come together during national holidays. 

According to information obtained from AKP sources, it was stated that President Erdoğan and CHP Chairman Özel agreed on a return visit in the near future and reached an understanding to meet during national holidays.

JULY 15 AND THE CONSTITUTION

Sources indicated that the issue of a new constitution was also discussed between the two, with Erdoğan stating that the constitution should be updated according to changing conditions.

Sources stated that Erdoğan thanked CHP Chairman Özel for the resistance he showed on the night of July 15, and that Özel replied, “I never thought it was a theater.”

THE ISSUE OF CAN ATALAY AND OSMAN KAVALA

It was learned that Özel conveyed his request regarding the prisoners convicted in the February 28 case, and that Erdoğan said, "Let us evaluate it." 

It was learned that Özel raised the issue of lawyer Şerafettin Can Atalay and Osman Kavala, who received 18-year prison sentences in the Gezi Park trial. It was stated that Özel made a request to President Erdoğan for the abolition of oral interviews.

Erdoğan also congratulated CHP Chairman Özel on his election success, stating, "There is a process gaining momentum under your leadership."
