While Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel has kept the possibility of a by-election on the agenda by meeting with various party leaders, responses to these claims have come one after another from the government wing and its partners.
AKP Spokesperson Ömer Çelik, in his statement on the subject regarding CHP leader Özel's election calls, closed the door on an early election by using the expressions, "Because he is in a party congress mindset, he thinks Turkey is managed that way too. He keeps bringing up the issue of elections. We have come to power by defeating you many times. Elections should be held on time."
MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, on the other hand, emphasized that the elections would be held according to the current schedule with the words, "The Republican People's Party should not be eager to open up the congestion at its door by stirring up Turkey. There is no by-election, the election is on time."
AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also spoke to journalists after his party's group meeting at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.
Erdoğan was reminded of the discussions regarding a by-election and whether there would be a change in the election date. Responding to journalist Murat Yetkin's question, "Both Mr. Ömer and Mr. Devlet have stated that the election will be held on time. Should we understand this as May 14, 2028, or is there a formula where you could also be a candidate?" Erdoğan used the expressions, "Exactly so, it will be held on time."
