Erdoğan pardons 9 individuals, including one sentenced to 'aggravated life imprisonment' for FETÖ links

The remaining sentence of Mehmet Tunç, who served as the Civil Defense Secretary at the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) on July 15, 2016, and was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for "attempting to overthrow the constitutional order," has been commuted by the signature of President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, citing a report from the Council of Forensic Medicine.

Mehmet Tunç, who served as the Civil Defense Secretary at the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) on July 15, 2016, was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for "attempting to overthrow the constitutional order."

In the Presidential Decree published in the Official Gazette, Tunç's remaining sentence was 'pardoned'.

With a Presidential Decree published in the Official Gazette under the signature of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the sentences of 9 people have been commuted.

With the published decrees,

The remaining sentence of Adem Kozu, a convict in the Sivas Madımak massacre, was commuted on the grounds of "chronic illness,"

The remaining sentence of convict Mehmet Tunç, who received an aggravated life sentence for attempting to overthrow the constitutional order, was commuted under the scope of "infirmity due to old age,"

The remaining sentence of Ali Kapu, who was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for shooting and killing his ex-wife Şenay Öz, whom he had divorced 10 years prior, in front of their daughter in Mersin, was commuted under the scope of "chronic illness,"

The remaining sentence of convict Mustafa Şahbudak, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for encouraging or facilitating prostitution, establishing an organization for the purpose of committing crimes, making threats using the names of criminal organizations, and intentional homicide, was commuted under the scope of "disability,"

The remaining sentence of Mahmut Altun, who was convicted of establishing an organization for the purpose of committing crimes and encouraging or facilitating prostitution, was commuted under the scope of "infirmity due to old age,"

The remaining sentence of convict Serkan Şencan, who was convicted of drug trafficking and serial encouragement of prostitution, was commuted under the scope of "chronic illness and disability,"

The remaining sentence of convict Mustafa Eğmen, who was convicted of attempted intentional homicide, possession of unlicensed firearms, violation of residential immunity, forgery of official documents, deprivation of liberty using force, threat or deception, and serial threats, was commuted under the scope of "chronic illness and disability,"

The remaining sentence of convict Süleyman Kızılkaya, who was convicted of theft, unauthorized use of another person's bank or credit card, and violation of residential immunity, was commuted under the scope of "disability,"

The remaining sentence of convict Abdullah Şen, who was convicted of membership in an armed terrorist organization, was commuted under the scope of "chronic illness."
