Erdoğan's economic admission: "We are aware that everything is not rosy"

Speaking at the TOBB Service Honor Certificate and Plaque Presentation Ceremony, AKP President Erdoğan addressed the current state of the economy. Erdoğan stated, "We are aware of the pressure stemming from regional and global developments. We are aware that everything is not rosy."

President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made remarks at the TOBB Service Honor Certificate and Plaque Presentation Ceremony held at the TOBB Twin Towers. Claiming that they have brought the economy to a solid structure during their term in office, Erdoğan acknowledged that not everything is going well and argued that the economic management is taking all necessary measures to minimize the stress experienced by the market.

"OUR NATIONAL INCOME HAS REACHED 1.6 TRILLION DOLLARS"

Claiming that they have moved Turkey to a higher league in every field, Erdoğan argued that they have made the Turkish economy resilient against shocks during a period when protectionist tendencies are on the rise. Erdoğan said, "We have brought our national income to 1.6 trillion dollars. Per capita income has reached 18 thousand dollars. The 4.6 billion dollar increase recorded in April was the highest export increase in the last 53 years."

"TOGG IS ADORNING EUROPEAN ROADS"

Criticizing the opposition over the domestic car TOGG, President Erdoğan stated that they have broken the walls of learned helplessness that have been imposed for decades and spoke as follows:

"We have never taken those who use every opportunity they get to spread doom and gloom seriously, and we will not give them any credit from now on. We gave the necessary answer to those who said, 'What do they know about producing cars?' TOGG is adorning the roads in many European countries."

"WE ARE TAKING ALL KINDS OF MEASURES FOR MARKET STRESS"

Stating that they are following the situation in the markets as well as economic data, Erdoğan expressed his confidence in the economic management:

"Of course, we are aware that everything is not rosy. We know the pressure created by temporary price increases stemming from regional and global developments. The economy is not just about charts. Our economic management is taking all kinds of measures to minimize the stress experienced by the market, and will continue to do so."

"THERE IS AN OPPORTUNISTIC PRICING HABIT"

Touching upon the exorbitant price increases in the market, Erdoğan said that disproportionate hikes cannot be explained by production and transportation costs. Emphasizing the Ahi tradition, Erdoğan used the following expressions:

"We are facing an opportunistic pricing habit that cannot be explained by the increase in production and transportation costs. There is a disproportionate increase in some products. This cannot be explained by the market. Some are reaching for our citizens' earnings with exorbitant prices. There is opportunistic price gouging. We are resolutely continuing our actions against opportunists."
