AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made statements at the International Women and Justice Summit organized by the Women and Democracy Foundation (KADEM) at Haliç University.
Claiming that they have faced serious obstacles for 22 years, Erdoğan said, "We have dealt with every variety of the exclusionary mentality that has permeated the cells of tutelage and oppression. Unfortunately, despite the clear provisions of our constitution, women in this country were excluded from education and working life for years solely because of their headscarves. Persuasion rooms, reminiscent of the gates of fascism, were set up at the doors of universities. Women could not work freely in our private sector organizations that acted more royalist than the king himself."
'WE FACED THE IMPOSITIONS OF THE OLD TURKEY'
Stating, "As the Mayor of Istanbul and Prime Minister, we also faced the impositions of the old Turkey," Erdoğan said, "As a result of the struggle we have waged over the last 22 years, we have left all of these behind as bad memories. All obstacles to our country's human and industrial enrichment have been removed, especially in education and working life."
'WE EXPECT HIM TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY'
Addressing Donald Trump, who emerged victorious from the US presidential elections on November 5, Erdoğan said, "We congratulated Trump on his election victory. We reminded him of Gaza and Lebanon. We expect my dear friend Trump to abandon the erroneous policies of the previous administration during his second presidential term. We expect him to take responsibility to ensure that no more blood is shed and that the war ends."
