Erdoğan signals new regulation against smoking! Will tobacco factories be closed?
Meeting with young people in Istanbul, AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan signaled that a new regulation against smoking is on the way. Drawing attention to the British model, Erdoğan said, "We may contact the United Kingdom regarding the law that bans lifelong access to cigarettes for those born after 2009."

AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan spoke at the World No Tobacco Day program held at the Vahdettin Pavilion.
Discussing the harms of smoking, Erdoğan said, "We see that the tobacco industry targets all segments of our society, especially our children. Despite all these harms of smoking, the tobacco industry continues to earn seven hundred billion dollars every year."
NEW REGULATION AGAINST SMOKING IS COMING
Emphasizing that 85 thousand people lose their lives in Turkey every year due to smoking-related diseases, Erdoğan signaled that a new regulation against smoking is coming.
Following a Spanish student's mention of regulations on tobacco products in their country, Erdoğan stated that he would request the text of that law from Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez. Erdoğan also drew attention to the UK model, saying, "We may contact the United Kingdom regarding the law that bans lifelong access to cigarettes for those born after 2009."
RESPONSE TO THE QUESTION "CAN WE REMOVE CIGARETTE FACTORIES?"
In response to the question from 9-year-old Nilay Akman, "Can we remove cigarette factories?", Erdoğan replied, "It is possible."
Referring to anti-smoking decisions taken in the past, Erdoğan said, "We have taken important steps, from the ban on smoking in indoor areas to increasing fines and implementing high taxes. We are also continuing our fight against electronic cigarettes."
