Erdoğan to landlord demanding exorbitant rent: Do you have a conscience?

AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan spoke at the Teachers' Day Program titled "Those Who Built the 100 Years, Those Who Will Build the 100 Years" held at the Istanbul Congress Center.

Erdoğan recounted his dialogue with a citizen, saying, "He said, 'I am a tenant.' I asked, 'What are you paying?' He said, 'Mr. President, the landlord is putting serious pressure on me right now. I was paying 2,500 liras. Now he has raised my rent to 7,500 liras. He says, "Either you pay it or you move out."'"

ADDRESSING THE LANDLORD: DO YOU HAVE A CONSCIENCE?

Following these remarks, Erdoğan addressed the landlord. Stating that raising the rent from 2,500 to 7,500 liras does not fit within the bounds of fairness, Erdoğan continued:

"I had to call our mayor in that district. We made a request of him. I said, 'Find a suitable place for rent. Or, if we have TOKİ houses, provide an opportunity for him there.' This conscience... Expecting everything from the state is probably not something that will work. We will join hands, we will be in solidarity. But I have to ask that landlord—he is probably listening to me now—'Do you have a conscience?' We are building so many houses. We are trying to develop solutions with these houses we build. But have some mercy, from 2,500 to 7,500. What kind of conscience is this?"
