Erdoğan's 'cotton candy' rebuke to Mansur Yavaş: You embrace street terrorists, yet you harp on the offering of cotton candy!

As the protests that began in Saraçhane following the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was arrested yesterday, continue, Mansur Yavaş made a speech on the evening of March 22, referencing the Nevruz celebration held in Şırnak, saying, "While flags that I consider rags were being waved somewhere in the east yesterday, and police were handing out cotton candy to those attending that rally, we expect them to give cotton candy to the youth here as well."

ERDOĞAN'S COTTON CANDY REBUKE

AKP Chairman and President Tayyip Erdoğan responded to Yavaş. Erdoğan stated, "Those who embrace street terrorists who attack our security forces with axes, flammable acid, and clubs are harping on our police offering cotton candy to children." 

The relevant section of the statement made by Erdoğan after the cabinet meeting is as follows:

"The fact that our police officer purchased cotton candy from a disabled citizen with his own money and gave it to children is being criticized by main opposition actors.

Those who embrace street terrorists who attack our security forces with axes, flammable acid, and clubs are harping on our police offering cotton candy to children. As if they were not the ones begging for votes city by city until just yesterday, they are now engaging in demagoguery over cotton candy.

They have no problem with stones being thrown at the police, with attacks using axes, or with acid being thrown. They have no issue with shop windows being smashed. They have no concern about the looting of the nation's property.

They have no problem with mosque courtyards being turned into taverns, but the distribution of cotton candy to children by our police during the Nevruz holiday bothers them.

I believe that these actions are also being noted by our Kurdish brothers and sisters."
