It is claimed that President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, regarding his party's efforts concerning stray dogs, said, "Finalize this matter as soon as possible. Finish the draft text and present it to me immediately."
According to the report by Emrah Özcan from the Türkiye newspaper, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı shared current data on stray animals during the AKP's Central Executive Board (MYK) meeting held the other day. AKP Parliamentary Group Chairman Abdullah Güler also explained the latest status of the work being carried out.
Upon Erdoğan's cautious approach to the issue of "euthanasia," it was noted that Güler stated this is already present in Law No. 5199 and that the scope would only be expanded in terms of public safety.
Following this, it was learned that Erdoğan said, "Finalize this matter as soon as possible. Finish the draft text and present it to me immediately."
The role of local governments in this matter and the improvement of the quality and standards of shelters were also brought to the agenda.
It was emphasized that the problem cannot be solved solely by taking dogs into shelters, and that improving the facilities and conditions in shelters is also important. On the other hand, it was stated that the proposal would be submitted to the Speaker of the Parliament before the Parliament closes.
