Erdoğan's interpreter becomes ambassador

New assignments have been made to certain embassies and permanent representations. Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan notified the ambassadors of their appointments.
Names from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's advisory staff were also appointed as ambassadors. Erdoğan’s Arabic interpreter and advisor Yakup Caymazoğlu was appointed as ambassador to Amman, Jordan, while former press advisor Lütfullah Göktaş was appointed as ambassador to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Göktaş, who previously served as Ambassador to the Vatican, has returned to the diplomatic stage.

On the other hand, Turkish Maarif Foundation President Birol Akgün was appointed as the Ambassador to Baku, Azerbaijan.
The prominence of female diplomats among the appointments drew attention. Ministry of Foreign Affairs Director General for Bilateral Relations (Asia-Pacific) Esra Cankorur was appointed to Dublin, Director General for East Africa Elif Ülgen to Rome, and Director General for Central Asia Gökhan Turan to Berlin.
