Erdoğan's Marmara Earthquake post: We have never let the earthquake threat slip from our minds

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan issued a message of condolence on his social media account on the 25th anniversary of the August 17, 1999 Marmara Earthquake.

In his message, Erdoğan stated, "I pray for God's mercy upon our brothers and sisters who lost their lives in the August 17, 1999 Marmara Earthquake, and I once again extend my condolences to our citizens who lost their loved ones on the anniversary of this great pain," and continued as follows:

"We have never let the reality that Turkey is a country under the threat of earthquakes slip from our minds.

Through urban transformation projects, we have ensured the construction of 3.3 million housing units across our country. With the projects we have implemented, we have provided nearly 20 million of our citizens with safe homes. Following the February 6 earthquakes, we began the construction of 300 thousand housing units in the region.

'WE HAVE DELIVERED 76 THOUSAND HOUSING UNITS TO OUR EARTHQUAKE-VICTIM BROTHERS AND SISTERS'

To date, we have delivered 76 thousand housing units to our earthquake-victim brothers and sisters. Hopefully, we plan to deliver 200 thousand housing units to their rightful owners by the end of the year. We are working with all our might to make our earthquake-affected regions more robust and more magnificent than they were before.

By constantly developing new projects, we are encouraging our citizens living in risky structures to renovate their buildings. We will continue our work with determination until we have made all our cities better prepared for all kinds of disasters."
