AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan spoke at the "2024-2025 Higher Education Academic Year Opening Ceremony" held at the Nation's Congress and Culture Center in the Presidential Palace.

In his speech, Erdoğan addressed the issues of femicides and violence against women.

"We have been witnessing events in recent days that have scorched our hearts as a nation," said Erdoğan, recalling the recent martyrdom of a young police officer in Istanbul and the brutal murder of two young women.

Erdoğan stated, "In the majority of these cases, both the perpetrator and the victim are our youth. We cannot leave our youth to the mercy of modern culture. The burden of every young person we lose to terrorism, drugs, alcohol addiction, deviant movements, or criminal gangs is on all of us."

Here are the highlights from Erdoğan's remarks:

"It is Andalusia that brought Europe from darkness to light. The greater the value placed on knowledge and science, the brighter a country's future. Universities are the centers that produce knowledge. Academies are not just places for knowledge transfer, but also the foundation for the intellectual evaluation that the country needs. We have established a university in every province; there is a university in each of our 81 provinces. We have not overlooked the support for our students.

Contrary to the propaganda of fascist circles, international students cover their own education costs. We have brought a system to our country regarding dormitories that has no equal in the world. We abolished the coefficient injustice and dress code bans of the February 28 mentality. What befits Turkish universities is to ensure our country enters the top 10 in scientific publications. The scene at TEKNOFEST Adana has further increased our hopes.

"STUDENTS WHO SAID 'THERE IS A GENOCIDE IN GAZA' WERE SUBJECTED TO POLICE VIOLENCE"

We have all seen the stance taken by those who lecture us from the highest level regarding the Gaza genocide. Students who said, 'There is a genocide in Gaza,' were subjected to police violence and dragged on the ground. The Gaza genocide has once again shown that the Zionist lobby has also brought the world's most prestigious universities under its domination. It has emerged that Zionist capital rules the world's best universities under the name of endowment funds.

"WE HAVE BEEN WITNESSING EVENTS IN RECENT DAYS THAT HAVE SCORCHED OUR HEARTS AS A NATION"

We have been witnessing events in recent days that have scorched our hearts as a nation. A young police officer of ours was martyred in Istanbul. Last Friday, two of our young women fell victim to a brutal murder.

We see that the filth spread by digital platforms, deviant movements, and the mafia culture encouraged by TV series sometimes play a role in these pains. In the majority of these cases, both the perpetrator and the victim are our youth.

We cannot leave our youth to the mercy of modern culture. We cannot remain spectators as our youth are lost in the dark corridors of social media and digital platforms, where all kinds of evil exist. The burden of every young person we lose to terrorism, drugs, alcohol addiction, deviant movements, or criminal gangs is on all of us."
