Remarkable moments occurred on Akit TV, one of the leading pro-government channels. Journalist Ertuğrul Özkök, a guest on a program on the channel, brought up the subject of İmamoğlu's trial process and stated that the accusations made against IMM President İmamoğlu are exactly the same as the accusations in the trial process Erdoğan went through during his mayoral term.
Not stopping there, Özkök criticized the actions taken against İmamoğlu and his family, making a notable comment on Akit TV screens by saying that none of these types of practices had occurred during the Erdoğan era.
Here are those statements by Özkök:
"You have forgotten; Tayyip Erdoğan was also tried for corruption in this country in 2002. Have you forgotten these? He was tried for corruption during his mayoral term.
Have you looked at the indictment of accusations against Tayyip Erdoğan in 2002?
Even the articles of the accusations made against Ekrem İmamoğlu are the same. Look, they are the same. Tayyip Erdoğan –I am not saying he was right, it was an unfair thing, it was an unfair trial–
The Akbil case alone was more than the allegations put forward today regarding Ekrem İmamoğlu in terms of money.
Now, they did not take Tayyip Erdoğan from his home, nor did they take his wife, his child, his daughter, his driver, or his relatives. In fact, in the first session, the judge exempted him; he did not even have to attend the hearings or the trials.
He was acquitted of some of them at that time, and some of them were time-barred. They are the same accusations. Let me tell you what happened later. Today, Ghannouchi was sentenced to life imprisonment.
Yes. Four courts were opened against him, do you know what for? One of them, one of the courts, is for financial corruption within his party, within the movement. One of them is for media –leaking money to media close to him, laundering money there–. There is one more thing. And a fourth one, finally, is for establishing a structure to seize the state. Its accusations are also the same as the ones in Turkey. This is what I am trying to explain. I mean, our Muslim world has a problem. Since the day President Erdoğan came to power, he rightly said, 'The place where we will be held accountable is the will of the people,' right?"
Muharrem Coşkun: 'It is our nation,' he said, sir.
Ertuğrul Özkök: 'It is the will of our nation,' he said. Okay, but unfortunately, in these countries, in Muslim countries, whoever comes to power does not look at the will of the nation; they just come, and then that corruption, this and that..."
