EU statement from Hakan Fidan: 'Our government has never given up'

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has concluded his meeting with European Union (EU) Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi.

Varhelyi said the following after the meeting:

"We aim to mobilize 2.4 billion euros in direct investment (for the EU-Turkey Investment Fund).

(Turkey and the EU) We broke a record last year in terms of trade volume. We have exceeded 200 billion euros.

There is great interest from the Turkish people in the EU. We saw a 30 percent increase in visa applications last year.”

"WE HAVE NOT GIVEN UP" MESSAGE TO THE EU

Foreign Minister Fidan, in his statement where he used the phrase “Our government has never given up on efforts regarding the EU," said, "We will not abandon our strategy of being a central country and our historical journey just because they (the EU) are not making that choice."
