European Union stops advertising on X
The European Commission has confirmed reports that it has stopped advertising on the social media platform X.

European Commission spokesperson Johannes Bahrke stated that the decision to stop advertising on X is in line with internal guidelines that are frequently revised based on the development of the situation.
Bahrke said, "We have seen an alarming increase in disinformation and hate speech on various social media platforms in recent weeks, and X is certainly quite affected by this."
For this reason, Bahrke said that EU institutions have decided to stop advertising on social media platforms where they are concerned that their content might appear in an inappropriate context.
"WE ARE NOT LEAVING THE PLATFORM"
This decision has so far only affected the X platform. Spokesperson Bahrke noted that this measure only concerns advertisements and does not mean that EU accounts are leaving the platform.
Last month, the EU also launched an investigation into X's compliance with the union's online rules due to disinformation, illegal and harmful content spreading following Hamas's attacks on Israel.
The European Commission did not make any comment on whether the advertising ban decision is related to this investigation.
