An exhumation process has been initiated as part of the investigation into the death of former Minister of Transport Arif Ahmet Denizolgun. Following a decision made upon the request of the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, teams arrived at the Karacaahmet Cemetery in Istanbul.
In a statement from the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was noted that allegations and complaints had been filed claiming that the death of Denizolgun, who passed away on September 6, 2016, and the subsequent autopsy procedures were "suspicious." The statement indicated that an exhumation order was issued in accordance with the provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code (CMK) "in order to conduct a re-examination to determine the true cause of death of the deceased."
Security measures were increased around the cemetery prior to the operation. While precautions were taken in the area with iron barriers, it was observed that the prosecutor and crime scene investigation officers entered the cemetery.
It was reported that the re-examination to be conducted within the scope of the investigation is being carried out to evaluate the allegations and complaints regarding the cause of Denizolgun's death.
