Extraordinary demands from citizens to Parliament: Requests sent to the TBMM Petition Commission are astonishing

While more than 31 thousand applications were made to the TBMM Petition Commission during the 28th Legislative Term, the requests submitted by citizens included some noteworthy and extraordinary proposals.
A total of 31,441 applications have reached the TBMM Petition Commission, which examines the demands and complaints of citizens, since May 15, 2023, the beginning of the 28th Legislative Term.
While the Commission's Presidential Board has made decisions regarding 29,819 of these applications, it was noted that one-fourth of the petitions were submitted by women.
NOTABLE REQUESTS
Among the applications submitted to the Commission were some unconventional proposals.
A citizen living in Yozgat requested that fault lines be detonated in a controlled manner in order to prevent major earthquakes.
In some applications, it was requested that the day following Laylat al-Qadr and Cabotage Day be declared public holidays.
In another application, a person who claimed that they had secretly reported their employer for tax evasion but was fired after their identity was revealed, requested that their rights be restored, that they be given a new job, and that they be granted the title of “veteran of economic terror”.
OTHER PROPOSALS SUBMITTED TO THE COMMISSION
Some of the interesting and noteworthy requests sent to the Petition Commission are as follows:
Mandatory retirement for public employees over the age of 65,
Identifying and supporting inventor inmates,
Banning marriage between cousins,
Enacting a law requiring every television channel to broadcast 1.5 hours of religious programming per day,
Imposing a social media ban on people over the age of 50,
Appointment of mayors by the President,
Banning the use of the words 'Mr./Ms.' (Bay/Bayan),
Banning witchcraft,
Providing religious culture, general morality, and etiquette lessons to members of parliament due to their attitudes,
Granting a salary to unemployed youth under the name of citizenship salary,
Restricting the use of the word 'to create' (yaratmak) through regulations to be made in the Turkish Language Association and RTÜK legislation.
