Facing up to 44 years in prison: Release decision for Cem Gölbaşı

Cem Gölbaşı, the leader of the Genç Fenerbahçeliler (GFB) fan group, was arrested in recent months on charges of forcing a person who allegedly mocked him to wear a wig and threatening him. In the incident, the victim was forced to record a video saying, "I apologize for the wrongs I committed against Cem Abi," and these images were shared on social media.

In the indictment prepared as part of the investigation, a prison sentence of 20 to 44 years was requested for Cem Gölbaşı on charges of "deprivation of liberty," "threat," and "torture."

Following a review of the file, the prosecutor requested that Cem Gölbaşı be released to be tried without arrest. The court decided to release Gölbaşı and his 4 companions.

Following the decision, Cem Gölbaşı's lawyer made a statement on his social media account, saying, "Our client, our brother Cem Gölbaşı has been released, good news!"

BEHIND THE SCENES OF THE INCIDENT... WHAT HAPPENED?

Cem Gölbaşı went to the workplace of a person named B.İ., who had mocked him with a photo of him from a fake social media account. The suspects, who assaulted B.İ. there, stayed at the workplace for a while and then left the shop, taking B.İ. with them. The suspects recorded the moments when they made B.İ. wear a wig and apologize, and shared it on social media. After the footage, B.İ. went to the police and filed a complaint against the suspects. The police launched an investigation into the matter.

During the work carried out, the identities of a total of 7 people, including Gölbaşı and those acting with him, were determined. An operation was carried out against the suspects. In the operation, 7 people, including Gölbaşı, were detained. During the searches at the addresses, 1 unlicensed pistol, 72 cartridges, 1 ballistic vest, 100 thousand 600 TL, 2 thousand 500 dollars, and 315 euros were seized.

Cem Gölbaşı, I.A., S.Ş., Ş.B., and U.Ö., who were referred to the Duty Criminal Judgeship of Peace after their prosecutor's interrogation at the Bakırköy Courthouse, were arrested on charges of "plunder," "torture," "disclosing images and sounds related to private life," and "deprivation of liberty using force, threat, or deception," while suspects H.M.Ş. and Y.A. were released under judicial control conditions.

THERE WAS A 44-YEAR PRISON DEMAND

Footage of the suspects at B.İ.'s workplace has emerged. The footage shows the moments when the suspects kicked B.İ. and then left the shop with B.İ. In addition, the video in which B.İ. was made to wear a wig and apologize to Gölbaşı was also reached. The investigation initiated by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Organized Crime Investigation Bureau has been completed. In the prepared indictment, a prison sentence of 20 to 44 years was requested for Cem Gölbaşı on charges of 'torture', 'deprivation of liberty using force, threat, or deception', 'disclosing images and sounds related to private life', 'unlawful entry and remaining in an information system', 'unlawfully obtaining or disseminating personal data', and 'plunder in the workplace by more than one person together'. Along with Gölbaşı, prison sentences of varying rates were requested for H.M.Ş., I.A., S.Ş., Ş.B., U.Ö., and Y.A. for different crimes.

The indictment sent to the Bakırköy High Criminal Court has been accepted. Gölbaşı and 6 suspects will appear before the judge in the coming days. In his statement taken as part of the investigation, Cem Gölbaşı said that the idea of wearing a wig and shooting an apology video was proposed to him by the victim B.İ. Gölbaşı said, "I do not know the complainant B.İ. There is no hostility between us. Because I am a stand leader, I am exposed to smear campaigns on social media accounts." Gölbaşı stated that B.İ. offered to wear a wig and shoot an apology video, and that he accepted this situation.
