Father of assaulted child files complaint against gendarmerie for inaction

In Ankara, Ahmet Yılmaz, the father of 16-year-old Y.K.Y., has filed a complaint with the prosecutor's office against the gendarmerie, alleging neglect of duty for failing to take action against two attackers who assaulted and threatened his child with a weapon.

16-year-old Y.K.Y., who lives in Ankara, was attacked on May 31 in Mamak Zirvekent. After assaulting Y.K.Y., the attackers stole his phone, wristwatch, and cash.

Y.K.Y. gave a statement regarding the incident to the Zirvekent Gendarmerie Station Command. In his statement, he alleged that an attacker named E.Ö. threatened him by saying, "The gendarmerie doesn't do anything to me. They catch me and then release me; we will kill you."

'THEY STARTED THE PROCEDURES 3 DAYS LATER'

Father Ahmet Yılmaz filed a complaint with the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against the Zirvekent Gendarmerie Station Command for neglect of duty. In his complaint, Yılmaz stated, "Although the date of the incident was May 31, the gendarmerie personnel did not collect potential evidence such as security camera footage and similar items, nor did they collect forensic reports in a timely manner. They told us the prosecutor was not available and only began the procedures about 3 days later.

When we went to get a medical report 3 days later, the doctor there said that because time had passed since the incident, there were no marks or signs left on the body, and that at this stage, only his statements could be written into the report. The fault in this investigation file lies with the gendarmerie. As far as I know, they are still waiting to take the statement of the other party. I am filing a complaint against the gendarmerie personnel who failed to carry out the necessary investigation procedures in a timely manner and tried to evade responsibility with excuses like 'there is no prosecutor'," he said.

While the statements of the attackers have still not been taken, it is alleged that 4 days after Ahmet Yılmaz filed his complaint with the prosecutor's office, the same attackers wounded another child with a knife in the same neighborhood.
