Journalist Fatih Altaylı addressed in his column a claim regarding Mansur Yavaş that he stated is being discussed in Ankara's political circles. While relaying the claim that a rumored investigation into Melih Gökçek is actually a preparation for an operation against Yavaş, Altaylı noted that he does not agree with this view.

In his column titled "Would I be wrong if I called it nonsense!", Fatih Altaylı wrote about the Mansur Yavaş claim that he said is being discussed in Ankara's political circles. Altaylı stated that the claim, which he had previously dismissed as "nonsense," has become a topic of discussion in the capital and has also been reflected in the newspapers.

Altaylı stated that he heard the claim from a friend who closely follows political developments and has been involved in politics in the past.

Noting that his friend called him on the day Murat Ağırel's report about Melih Gökçek's son was published and news about an investigation into Gökçek hit the agenda, Altaylı relayed that the following words were said to him during the conversation:

"The Mansur Yavaş operation has begun."

Stating that he could not make sense of these words, Altaylı wrote that his friend told him, "An investigation into Melih Gökçek means that an operation against Mansur Yavaş will be carried out soon."

Altaylı, however, stated that he countered this view with the following words:

"What does that have to do with it! Do they need Gökçek's testimony to carry out an operation against Mansur Yavaş? They can do it whenever they want anyway."

THE CLAIM IN ANKARA'S POLITICAL CIRCLES

According to what Altaylı relayed, his friend argued that Mansur Yavaş's political position is different from that of Ekrem İmamoğlu. His friend, noting that Yavaş also receives support from right-wing voters, made the following assessment:

"Mr. Mansur is not like Ekrem İmamoğlu. He has a very serious base of sympathizers in right-wing politics. He does not appear to the public as someone whose ambition exceeds his intellect and capacity, like Mr. Ekrem. He has an intelligent, dignified, and nationalist image. He is likely that kind of person, too. He is a man who has supporters in the base and even at the top of the ruling party. You cannot just jump on Mansur Yavaş like you did to İmamoğlu or other mayors. If you do, there will be a backlash. What is everyone saying? Aren't they saying that if a lawsuit is not filed against Melih Gökçek, there is no justice! Now they will go after Melih Gökçek. They will say that they do not care about anyone's tears, they are not looking left or right, and they are not making party distinctions, and then they will carry out an operation against Mansur Yavaş."

Altaylı stated that he opposed this claim by calling it "nonsense," to which his friend replied, "It's nonsense to you."

Altaylı noted that his friend continued the conversation by saying, "This is being talked about all over Ankara. You know Mansur Yavaş better than I do. Go ask him. He probably thinks the same way," expressing that the claim is being discussed in political circles in Ankara.

"I, HOWEVER, STILL SEE THIS AS NONSENSE"

Altaylı stated that conspiracy theories and various claims are frequently on the agenda in Ankara's political circles. Expressing that he does not take most of these discourses seriously, Altaylı wrote that this is why he did not attach importance to the claim regarding Mansur Yavaş at the initial stage.

Stating that the claim later appeared in newspapers as well, Altaylı said that his opinion did not change despite this:

"I, however, still see this as nonsense."

Drawing attention to the developments over the last two years, Altaylı argued that if the government wanted to take action against Mansur Yavaş, it would not need a Melih Gökçek investigation to do so.

He explained this view with the following words:

"They are acting very clearly with the logic of 'I am doing it. Because I can.'"

Altaylı also noted that he was not saying that no action would be taken against Mansur Yavaş with these words.

At the end of his article, he used the following expressions:

"I am not saying that nothing will happen to Mansur Yavaş, please do not misunderstand me.

But I am saying that they do not need a Melih Gökçek investigation to open an investigation into or arrest Yavaş."
