New Welfare Party (Yeniden Refah Partisi) Chairman Fatih Erbakan met with citizens in Arnavutköy as part of his party's 'Anatolian Meetings' program. In his speech there, Erbakan made assessments regarding minimum wage increase rates and also announced his own expectation for the minimum wage.

Arguing that the current minimum wage paid under today's conditions is insufficient, Erbakan said the following:

“A 100 percent raise for the minimum wage means that the minimum wage should reach 35,000 TL today. As the New Welfare Party, we have expressed this at every opportunity. The minimum wage needs to be increased to 35,000 TL this year. Because the poverty line has reached 70,000 TL. When there are two minimum wages in a household, when a husband and wife are living on minimum wage, the amount entering that home must at least reach the poverty line. Of course, along with this, the state must also provide the necessary support and incentives to the employer.

If a 320 percent salary increase were given to Bağ-Kur retirees today, it would mean that the Bağ-Kur retiree's salary would rise from 12,500 TL to 50,000 TL. This event happened in 1996-1997; it can happen today as well. However, the same mentality, the same spirit must come to power."
