The Super Lig's second-week match between Göztepe and Fenerbahçe saw notable events unfold during the second half.
Following the first half of the match held at Göztepe's Gürsel Aksel Stadium, Fenerbahçe Sports Club President Ali Koç and his delegation moved to head toward the away section for Fenerbahçe fans who were not allowed into the stadium. During this time, Göztepe fans showed strong reactions.
At the beginning of the second half, as Ali Koç and his delegation were walking from the sidelines toward the protocol section, Fatih Özkan, who held a Göztepe accreditation card, pushed Ali Koç from behind, causing him to fall to the ground.
Following the incident, teams from the Izmir Provincial Police Department's Sports Security Branch detained Özkan. After giving his statement to the prosecutor's office, Özkan was released under judicial control. In a written statement, Fatih Özkan apologized to both the Fenerbahçe and Göztepe communities.
Fatih Özkan included the following statements in his declaration:
“I would like it to be known that as a party to the heinous incident that occurred during the match played between two distinguished clubs of our football on 17/08/24, and which continues to occupy the public agenda, I am extremely sorry for what happened. I respectfully inform the public that I apologize to the entire public, the Göztepe Sports Club of which I am a member, honorary club president Mehmet Sepil, Fenerbahçe Sports Club President Ali Koç, and the entire Fenerbahçe community, so that the public is not occupied further by this incident and that the fans who have dedicated their hearts to both distinguished clubs are not worn out.”
