Fatih Terim Fund scandal discussed at Galatasaray Council: 'Suspend their memberships'

Galatasaray Council member and former executive Taner Aşkın spoke at the December Council meeting.

Aşkın requested that the club memberships of Fatih Terim and Ayhan Akman, whose names have appeared in the case regarding the high-interest foreign currency fraud scandal known publicly as the Fatih Terim Fund, be suspended. Aşkın also stated that such incidents cause harm to the club.

Aşkın said the following:

"I AM UNCOMFORTABLE HEARING THESE THINGS"

"Because of these notorious events, things are circulating against Galatasaray. Every minute, every second, it is being talked about at the greengrocer, at the corner store, in the newspapers, and on TV. We have nothing to do with these. Our former players have reached certain positions thanks to the privileges granted by the Galatasaray crest, and they have used this on the wrong path. They have made wrong mistakes. As a Galatasaray fan, I am uncomfortable hearing these things.

"I DEMAND THAT THEY REQUEST THEIR MEMBERSHIPS BE FROZEN"

It bothers me extremely. As a result, I would like to make a suggestion to these friends; I demand that our friends who are members of the club and whose names are mentioned in these cases use their personal discretion and submit a petition to the management to request that their memberships be frozen for a while.

This is an element that the Galatasaray community should be able to do most comfortably. If these friends do not do this, let me put it this way: I will submit a petition, I will submit it to the Disciplinary Board, provided that their rights remain reserved until they are cleared of these accusations...

I think it would be appropriate for these to be suspended by the management for a certain period, until the cases are concluded."
