Federation of Women Associations of Turkey: At least 280 women killed by men in 2024

According to the 2024 Femicide Report by the Federation of Women Associations of Turkey, at least 280 women lost their lives at the hands of men between January 1 and August 31.

The Federation of Women Associations of Turkey (TKDF) has released its data on femicides for the first 8 months of 2024. According to the report, at least 280 women were killed by men between January 1 and August 31, while 50 deaths were recorded as suspicious.

Of the women killed, 153 were murdered with firearms and 60 with sharp objects. Among the victims, 134 were married, 73 were single, and the marital status of 41 is unknown. 162 of the women were killed in their own homes, 9 at their workplaces, and 82 in public spaces.

In August alone, 31 femicides were committed. It was determined that 4 of the men who killed the women were in the process of divorce or separation. 13 of the women were killed with firearms and 8 with sharp objects. Among the victims in August, 13 were married, 10 were single, and the marital status of 5 is unknown. 14 of the women were killed in their own homes, 1 at their workplace, and 12 in public spaces.
