Born into an Alevi family in Ankara and originally from Sivas, Ali Tatar completed his primary and secondary education in Keçiören, and his undergraduate and graduate studies at Hacettepe University.

He passed the exam held in 1989 and joined the Turkish Naval Forces with the rank of lieutenant. He worked at the Naval Forces' non-commissioned officer preparatory school. Tatar, who also served as the training plan and program branch manager at the Karamürsel Training Command, worked in section command and branch management roles at the Heybeliada Naval High School and the Naval Academy. He served as the head of the schools training and management branch at the Beylerbeyi Naval Training and Education Command.

During this process, he completed his master's and doctoral degrees.

HIS INNOCENCE WAS PROVEN AFTER HIS DEATH, THOSE WHO JUDGED HIM TURNED OUT TO BE FETÖ MEMBERS!

On December 5, 2009, he was arrested as part of the conspiracy case against admirals and sent to Hasdal Military Prison. Following an appeal against his detention, he was released on December 16. Upon the prosecutor's objection, a new arrest warrant was issued for him. Following this, he committed suicide in his home in Beylerbeyi on the morning of December 19, 2009, leaving behind a letter.

The prosecutor who requested Tatar's arrest and the judge who accepted the arrest request were sentenced to prison for being members of FETÖ after the July 15 coup attempt.

After his death, it was determined that the handwriting on the document that caused his arrest on the allegation of assassinating admirals did not belong to him, and his innocence was confirmed.
