Few days left until local elections: YSK unveils ballot papers

Turkey will head to the polls on Sunday, March 31, 2024, to elect its local administrators. The YSK has determined the number of registered voters for the election as 61 million 441 thousand 882. According to YSK data, one million 32 thousand 610 young people who have turned 18 will cast their votes for the first time in this election.

There are only a few days left until the local elections. The Supreme Election Council (YSK) has determined that 61 million 441 thousand 882 voters will head to the polls on March 31, 2024. On the other hand, according to YSK data, 1 million 32 thousand 610 young people will vote for the first time in these elections.

50.59 percent of the voters are women, and 49.41 percent are men. As of March 23, the General Directorate of Voter Registry will mark the ballot lists of voters who have passed away, renounced citizenship, been conscripted, convicted, or restricted with a note stating "cannot vote."

The YSK has unveiled the ballot papers prepared for the local elections. The ballot paper for metropolitan mayoral elections will be "white," the ballot for provincial general assembly memberships will be "orange," the ballot for mayoral elections will be "blue," and the ballot for municipal council memberships will be "yellow."

In cities that are not metropolitan municipalities, votes will be cast for provincial general assembly membership, mayor, municipal council membership, and village head (muhtar) and council of elders.

The order of the parties on the ballot paper in the election, in which 34 political parties will participate, is as follows:

According to the list published by the YSK, Istanbul is the province where the highest number of candidates will compete for the metropolitan mayoral office, with a total of 49 candidates, 22 from political parties and 27 independent. In Ankara, a total of 24 candidates, 19 from political parties and 5 independent, are participating in the election. In Izmir, a total of 27 candidates, 21 from political parties and 6 independent, are on the list.
