Fire in Gayrettepe, Istanbul: 29 people lost their lives, 8 people detained

A fire broke out in a nightclub located in a 16-story building in Gayrettepe, Istanbul, which was reportedly undergoing renovations. 29 people lost their lives in the fire. One person is still receiving treatment at the hospital. Search and rescue operations in the building have been concluded.

A fire, believed to have been caused by renovations, broke out at the 'Masquerade' entertainment center, which operates on the -1 and -2 floors of a 16-story building located on Gündoğdu Street in the Gayrettepe Neighborhood of the Beşiktaş district.

Upon notification, fire, medical, and police teams were dispatched to the scene. Police teams took security measures in the surrounding area.

FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDED WITH 86 PERSONNEL

Fire crews intervened in the fire on the basement floors of the building, used as a club, with 31 vehicles and 86 personnel.

Following the report, a large number of fire and medical teams were sent to the scene. While the fire was extinguished by the fire department's intervention, 29 people lost their lives in the incident. One person who was taken to the hospital in critical condition continues to receive treatment.

Search and rescue operations by the teams in the building where the incident occurred have been concluded.

Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç made a statement regarding the matter.

Tunç said, "Detention orders have been issued for a total of 5 suspects, including 3 workplace officials, the responsible manager, and 1 person responsible for the renovations regarding the incident."

2 CIVIL INSPECTORS APPOINTED

Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya stated the following regarding the incident:

"An administrative investigation has been launched regarding the fire that occurred in Gayrettepe, Beşiktaş, Istanbul, and 2 of our Civil Inspectors have been appointed. Our inspectors have set off for the scene. We will continue to share developments regarding the subject with the public."

 

Finally, detention orders were issued for 8 individuals regarding the incident. The information about the individuals is as follows:

- İ.Ş. (born 1959, Responsible Manager, has a criminal record for intentional injury)

- M.M.C. (born 1979, Workplace Partner)

- Ş.Ş. (born 1974, Workplace partner, has a criminal record for intentional injury)

- S.A. (born 1985, Accountant, has a criminal record for sexual harassment)

- A.A.P. (born 1998, Operations Manager, has criminal records for TCK 191, 6136 SKM, and intentional injury.)

- K.E. (born 1977, person in charge of metal works related to the renovation)

- Ç.A. (born 1981, owner of the metal works company)

- E.E. (born 1984, Furniture maker, has criminal records for TCK 191 and intentional injury)
