"Firefighters were trapped in a ring of flames"
During the most critical moments of the fire, some firefighting teams were effectively trapped in a ring of flames when the wind shifted. Despite the thick smoke and rising temperatures, the teams did not retreat; through coordinated intervention, they both prevented the fire from spreading to a wider area and continued their work after reaching safe zones. The difficult struggle of the teams highlighted the intensity of the fire.
While the fire was brought under control after approximately 5 hours of uninterrupted intervention, cooling efforts continue in the region. During the fire, many stone pines, which are considered among the symbols of the Gemlik district, could not withstand the flames and turned to ash.
Authorities warned citizens to follow official warnings and not to approach risky areas.
