The 47th US President Donald Trump announced that an agreement has been reached between Israel and Hamas. Following Trump's statement, Palestinians living in Gaza began celebrations. The first comment regarding the development, which the whole world is following closely, came from Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel.
Making a statement via his social media account, Özel said, "A ceasefire is important but not sufficient," and used the following expressions:
"We have made calls and diplomatic initiatives on every national and international platform for the massacres in Gaza to come to an end.
We welcome the establishment of a ceasefire and expect it to come into effect as soon as possible.
However, those who have left no stone unturned in Palestine, those who have massacred tens of thousands of people and tiny children, those who have displaced people from their homes and lands, and those who have stolen their hopes must be held accountable.
A ceasefire is important but not sufficient. The steps necessary to reach a two-state solution in Palestine must also be taken as soon as possible."
