WHAT DID ERDOĞAN SAY?
In his statement today regarding his meeting with Özgür Özel, Erdoğan stated that they want to initiate a 'softening' period in politics and said the following:
"The fact that Mr. Özgür paid such a visit after becoming the chairman of the CHP is a positive development between the government and the main opposition. Unfortunately, such steps were not taken in previous processes. We see that with the taking of this step, politics in our country is entering a much more softening period. I told Mr. Özgür that I would reciprocate such a visit at the first opportunity. Turkey and Turkish politics need this. I want us to start a process of softening in politics in Turkey. We will take this step as well."
