Istanbul's Silivri district was shaken first by a 3.9 and then by a 6.2 magnitude earthquake.
The earthquake was also felt in surrounding provinces such as Bursa, İzmit, and Sakarya.
Earth scientist Prof. Dr. Naci Görür made a statement following the first earthquake centered in Silivri.
THE KUMBURGAZ FAULT IS LOADING
"A 4.0 magnitude earthquake occurred off the coast of Silivri around 12:00. The earthquake is on the Kumburgaz Fault zone. This fault is a locked fault; it is accumulating energy. From time to time, it also produces small earthquakes. Its location is significant; we must be careful. The Kumburgaz Fault is loading."

"This is not an earthquake that can be dismissed as having happened, finished, and passed. Turkey has once again been reminded of an agenda that should never change. The major earthquake is saying 'I am coming.' I am warning the authorities once again regarding Istanbul. We have no time to lose; there is none left."
