First day of DİSK's 17th Ordinary General Assembly: Female forklift operator challenges Arzu Çerkezoğlu

DİSK's 17th Ordinary General Assembly has begun at the Green Park Hotel in Pendik, Istanbul. During the assembly meeting, forklift operator Muzaffer Çetin announced her candidacy against Arzu Çerkezoğlu.

The Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions of Turkey (DİSK) 17th General Assembly began today. The General Assembly, which convened at The Green Park Congress Center in Pendik, Istanbul, was attended by DİSK-affiliated unions, workers, delegates, representatives of international trade unions, and figures from political parties.

CHALLENGER TO ARZU ÇERKEZOĞLU

At the General Assembly, a female worker has become a candidate against the current President Arzu Çerkezoğlu. Muzaffer Çetin, a logistics worker and member of Nakliyat-İş, announced her candidacy for the DİSK Presidency.

Working as a forklift operator, Çetin stated regarding her candidacy: "I work as a forklift operator at Sarp Lojistik in Eskişehir. I am a candidate for the DİSK Presidency to uphold and advance the name, history, principles of struggle, and traditions of DİSK."

ORDINARY GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO LAST THREE DAYS

Arzu Çerkezoğlu, a physician who previously served as the President of Dev Sağlık-İş, has been serving as the President of DİSK since 2018. The DİSK 17th Ordinary General Assembly, which began today and will last for three days, will continue tomorrow.
