First images of Ekrem İmamoğlu in custody: 'Everything will be beautiful'

The first images of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was detained in a dawn operation, have emerged.

Footage has emerged of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu being taken for a medical check-up following his detention as part of two separate investigations into the municipality.

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office had launched a major corruption investigation into the İBB, and arrest warrants were issued for 106 people, including Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, as part of investigations into cash-counting footage within the CHP and the 'City Consensus' (Kent Uzlaşısı). Acting within the scope of both investigations, teams from the Istanbul Counter-Terrorism Branch and the Financial Crimes Investigation Bureau conducted simultaneous operations at numerous addresses yesterday morning.

The moments when İmamoğlu, who was detained as part of the operation, was taken to the hospital for a medical check-up have surfaced. İmamoğlu was filmed by citizens on their mobile phones as he arrived for the check-up. The citizen filming İmamoğlu can be heard saying, 'everything will be beautiful.'
