Following MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli's call to the judiciary to "accelerate the process" regarding CHP-run municipalities, the investigation conducted into the Beşiktaş Municipality has been completed and the first indictment has been filed.
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office concluded the investigation, which was launched upon a tip-off regarding a procurement made by the Beşiktaş Municipality's Directorate of Culture and Social Affairs in 2019 through the direct procurement method as part of the October 29 Republic Day celebrations.
According to information reported by Ekol TV reporter Dilek Yaman Demir, an indictment has been prepared against a total of 8 people, including Beşiktaş Deputy Mayor Alican Abacı, the then-Director of Beşiktaş Culture and Social Affairs and current Avcılar Deputy Mayor Mehmet Mandacı, and current Büyükçekmece Deputy Mayor Rıza Can Özdemir, on charges of "rigging the performance of an obligation."
CAME AFTER BAHÇELİ'S REMARKS
Emphasizing in his recent statements that operations against municipalities should remain on the agenda, MHP leader Bahçeli had stated, "If there is a guilty party, let them serve their sentence; if there is an innocent one, let them be released." Immediately following this call by Bahçeli, who had urged for indictments to be prepared rapidly after the judicial recess, the first indictment in the Beşiktaş Municipality file has been completed.
