First reaction from CHP to the operation against Bayrampaşa Municipality

Reacting to the operation against Bayrampaşa Municipality, CHP Deputy Chairman Burhanettin Bulut stated, "This is not an investigation; it is clearly an attempted coup against the national will, a dream of a Turkey without ballot boxes, and a system of revenge."

Bayrampaşa Municipality has been added to the latest link in the chain of operations against CHP-run municipalities.

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into Bayrampaşa Municipality on charges of 'embezzlement', 'extortion', 'giving bribes', 'receiving bribes', and 'rigging tenders'.

Within the scope of the operation, detention warrants were issued for 48 people, including Bayrampaşa Mayor Hasan Mutlu.

Mutlu, along with five of his deputies and five municipal council members, were detained in a dawn operation.

The first reaction to the operation against Bayrampaşa Municipality came from the CHP. CHP Deputy Chairman Burhanettin Bulut noted the following in a post on his social media account:

"The government is attacking our municipalities, which it could not win at the ballot box, with the stick of the judiciary and law enforcement. Within the scope of the operation against our Bayrampaşa Municipality, 48 people, including our Mayor Hasan Mutlu, our municipal council members, and our deputy mayors, have been detained. We will protect the people's vote, democracy, and the national will. This is not an investigation; it is clearly an attempted coup against the national will. It is a dream of a Turkey without ballot boxes, a system of revenge!"
