The decision regarding the cancellation of the diploma of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu has caused widespread repercussions in the public eye. Following the decision taken by the Istanbul University Board of Directors, İmamoğlu made a statement on the social media platform X.

Ekrem İmamoğlu argued that the decision was unlawful and used the following expressions:
"The decision of the Istanbul University Board of Directors is unlawful. They do not have the authority to make such a decision. The authority lies solely with the Faculty of Business Administration Board of Directors. The days when those who made this decision will be held accountable before history and justice are near. The march of our nation, which is thirsty for justice, law, and democracy, cannot be stopped. No salvation alone!"
Following the decision, legal experts and politicians also made various assessments regarding the matter.
While no official statement has been made by Istanbul University yet, İmamoğlu will take the process to the judiciary.
Ekrem İmamoğlu shared the information that he would hold a live broadcast on his social media account at 19:50 following the developments.
