First response to Mansur Yavaş's 'I wonder what will be said when a hand is raised in the upcoming group meeting' remark

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) Mayor Mansur Yavaş attended the opening ceremony of the “Long Live the Republic Tunnel” prepared at Gençlik Park ahead of the October 29 Republic Day.

Responding to journalists' questions after the opening, Mansur Yavaş said regarding the new peace process claims, “If there is a plan or project, it must be taken to the public and shared with the parties that have groups in Parliament. There is no need for new adventures.”

ABB Mayor Mansur Yavaş said, in summary, the following:

“There are statements every time that defy imagination. I state that I do not agree with such statements. If we are a state of law, everything done must be in accordance with the law.

If there is a plan or project on this matter, the deputies must discuss it in Parliament.

Some things must also be asked to the public. It is not possible for someone to forgive a crime committed against someone else. Society has suffered a lot on this issue. If there were no will to live together, this society would have already fallen apart.

I think these things damage the will to live together. If there is a plan or project, it must be taken to the public and shared with the parties that have groups in Parliament.

Mansur Yavaş: I am truly curious!.. Our unitary structure can never be allowed to change. It is not possible for anyone to make a decision on this matter on their own.

The Turkish nation and their representatives, the members of parliament, will decide this. I am waiting to see what will be said when a hand is raised in the upcoming group meeting; I am truly curious. Because these are events we never expected…

FIRST RESPONSE FROM CHP TO YAVAŞ'S REMARK

Participating in a live broadcast on Sözcü TV, CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır made a statement when reminded of Yavaş's words.

When asked whether these words targeted CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, Başarır gave the following response:

I do not think that is the case, and I do not want to think so. When you look at the context before and after the sentence, I think Mansur Yavaş's addressee is Devlet Bahçeli. I do not believe, and I do not want to believe, that a CHP mayor would say such a thing to his own party's chairman. 

Before his speech, he touches upon the situation of martyrs' families... Mr. Mansur is a smart and good lawyer and is logical... He said those words to Mr. Devlet, not to Mr. Özgür.
